The MAM PREEMIE Pacifier Size 3 is a pacifier which is designed especially for premature babies. It has been classified as a medical product under the guideline 93/42/EEC Class 1.
The teat of the MAM PREEMIE Pacifier Size 3 is specially adapted for premature babies. It is smaller, softer, and therefore not as bite-resistant as pacifiers available in normal retail outlets, which can be used for older children with teeth or children weighing more than 2.500g (5lbs 8oz).
Thus the MAM PREEMIE Pacifier Size 3 does not meet the strict requirements of the European safety standard EN 1400, relevant to normal pacifiers. Specifically, due to the extra small teat the bite and pull tests required for pacifiers for children with teeth cannot be fulfilled. Nevertheless, the American requirements for pacifiers (16 CFR 1511) are completely met by the MAM PREEMIE Size 3.
MAM PREEMIE Size 3 are only suitable for premature babies up to a weight of 2,500g. It must be kept out of the reach of children who are more than 2,500g or older children with teeth (the teat could be bitten off completely by children with teeth).
Special instructions for usage and hygiene guidelines must be observed when using the MAM PREEMIE Pacifier Size 3. These instructions are provided with the set, and are also available as a download on this webpage.
