Care project "SHAKTI - Women Empowerment Program"

For MAM, corporate social responsibility also means helping the helpers who are concerned about the same issues. CARE – the world's third-largest aid organisation – is a perfect case in hand with its Nepal project entitled "SHAKTI – Women Empowerment Program".

The Shakti project focuses on women in the mountainous region of Churia in southern Nepal. This region, which is ravaged in turn by drought and flood disasters, is home to around 7500 women who have no access to any form of medical care. Non-existent health care and people's lack of knowledge about their own bodies are another central cause of poverty in one of the poorest regions in the world.

CARE and MAM have teamed up here to assist with a cooperation agreement that's fixed for five years.

The aim of the Shakti project is to spread knowledge and to provide medical facilities – these two things combined will make women in the region more independent and enable young families to be informed and empowered in taking control of planning their own lives.

The support provided by MAM is not just confined to donations of money, but also includes access to experts and local partners and active assistance with fundraising.
